Written by Rokiku 1797 (Kansei 9) Kaga Collection 3130
Senbazuru origata' (one thousand cranes origami patterns) which was first published in 1797 (9th year of Kansei) in Kyoto illustrates 49 different ways to make renzuru (a chain of 2 to 100 cranes made out of one single sheet of paper). This description called instruction does not actually give specific steps on how to create the various types of renzuru, but only shows how one could prepare the necessary cuts in the open origami paper. There are various names for different types of renzuru such as hōrai, inazuma, imoseyama and momozuru.
