Hirai Shōtengū's formal name is "Tōmyō-ji", and it has been attracting worshippers since times past as the Buddha to pray for marriage and protection from bad luck. It is still today said to be one of the "Three of Shōtens of the Kantō Region" along with Matsuchiyama Shōten in Asakusa and Menuma Shōten in Kumagaya.
