One Hundred Famous Views of Edo: Fukagawa Sanjūsangen-dō
Painted by Utagawa Hiroshige I 1857 (Ansei 4) Tokyo Shiryō Collection 0472-C25

Edo Sanjūsangen-dō was founded in Asakusa during the Kan'ei era (1624-1645), modeled after the Sanjūsangen-dō in Kyoto. It was transferred to Fukagawa in 1701 (the fourteenth year of Genroku) and was said to have a Senju Kannon as its principal image. As in Kyoto, long-distance archery was carried out here for the practicing of archery.
