One Hundred Famous Views of Edo: Shinagawa Goten-yama
Painted by Utagawa Hiroshige I 1856 (Ansei 3) Tokyo Shiryō Collection 0511-C29

Goten-yama was a popular spot for sakura (cherry blossoms) viewing. But at the end of the Edo period, with Admiral Perry's arrival, the government scraped away the area from Goten-yama to Yatsu-yama and build batteries by the seaside. This changed the landscape of the Goten-yama area drastically.
