Shinagawa-shuku on the Tokaidō Highway was, together with Itabashi-shuku on the Nakasendō Highway, Naito Shinjuku on the Kōshū Highway and Senju-shuku on the Nikkō/ Ōshū Highway, one of the four posts in Edo and the only one which faced the ocean. With its scenic beauty and variety of seafood, it attracted many people from all over Edo when the view changes from season to season.
