Konnō Hachimangū Shrine was said to have been founded in 1092 (the sixth year of Kanji) by Kawasaki Motoie who had built Shibuya Castle and become the founder of the Shibuya Clan. It was also famous for a rare cherry tree named "Konnō- zakura" which blooms in the precinct with the mixture of single and double petalled flowers on each branch.
