Thirty-six enjoyments of Edo: Fireworks at Ryōgoku
Painted by Utagawa Toyokuni III and Utagawa Hiroshige II 1864 (Genji 1) Tokyo Shiryō Collection 0421-C51

Both "Tamaya" and "Kagiya," which are called out when viewing fireworks, are the names of fireworks shops. Kagiya became famous when its sixth proprietor Yahei took charge of the fireworks to mark the river festival at Ryōgoku.
Tamaya was a spin-off of Kagiya. During the prosperity of these two families, Tamaya took charge of the area upstream from Ryōgoku-bashi bridge, while Kagiya handled the area downstream for the river festival fireworks at Ryōgoku.
