Kitazawa Awashima Myōjin Shrine is situated in the precinct of Shingan-ji Temple of the Jōdo Buddhism established in 1608 (the thirteenth year of Keichō) as a chapel to enshrine the posthumous name plate of Yuki Hideyasu, the second son of Tokugawa Ieyasu. When Shingan-ji Temple was opened, Awashima Myōjin was called upon from Kishū (Wakayama prefeceture) .
