Zōshigaya Hōmyō-ji Temple

Hōmyō-ji was established in 810 (the first year of Kōnin) as a temple of Shingon Buddhism. It converted to Nichiren Buddhism in 1312 (the first year of Shōwa) and in the Edo period, the temple received a shogunal charter from the third shogun Iemitsu, and became a grand temple in possession of 14 temples such as Shinjō-in, Renkō-in and Genjō-in and Kanjō-in Temples.
