In 1705 (the second year of Hōei), when 5th Shogun Tsunayoshi adopted Tsunatoyo (who later became the 6th Shogun Ienobu), a child of his older brother Tsunashige, he dedicated Tsunashige's Nezu residence of Edo to Nezu Shrine in Sendagi and undertook a large-scale construction work. This is the present-day Nezu Gongen shrine.
