Thirty-six enjoyments of Edo: Shiba-myōjin Shrine Shōga-ichi
Painted by Utagawa Toyokuni III and Utagawa Hiroshige II 1864 (Genji 1) Tokyo Shiryō Collection 0431-C47

Shiba-daijingū at Shibadaimon, Minato Ward, is a shrine that has been well-known as Shiba-shinmei since ancient times. A festival held there in the nine month of the lunar calendar lasted as long as 11 days and so it was mocked and called "Daradara Matsuri (lazy festival)". During the festival, ginger that is one of the specialties of Yanaka was sold everywhere on the temple grounds, lending the place another name, "Shōga-ichi(ginger market)."
