Compiled by Saitō Chōshū, Painted by Hasegawa Settan 1834-1836 (Tempō 5 to Tempō 7) Kaga Collection 256

As the soil of the Jindai-ji Temple area was not fit for rice growing, people in the area grew soba (buckwheat), dedicated the soba powder to the temple instead of rice, and the temple made soba noodles to treat its guests. It is said that this was the origin of Jindaiji Soba.
