Tama River flows from a source in Mt. Kasatori in Kōfu City, Yamanashi Prefecture. The upper reaches of the river is known as Taba River, the middle reaches as Tama River, and the lower reaches as Rokugō River. Tama River was so famous that it was composed in an old poem as one of the six Tama Rivers.
