Aigae-minato harbor, of which the name refers to how the water within the bay is a shade of blue that resembles indigo dye ("ai" means "indigo"), is known as a place with scenic beauty in the island. Furthermore, as it is a village benefiting from a rich supply of water in Hachijōjima Island, it had many rice fields and was also an area with large rice crop.
