Imado Porcelain from "Guide to Famous Spots of Edo Vol.6"
Compiled by Saitō Chōshū, Painted by Hasegawa Settan 1834-1836 (Tempō 5 to Tempō 7) Kaga Collection 256

Although the exact origin of Imado porcelain is unknown, it is said that it began when a retainer of the Chiba clan in Shimousa Province settled in Ishihama or Imado and began making roof tiles and earthenware. Aside from roof tiles, there were also many hibachi (charcoal braziers,) tablewear and figurines such as Inari foxes and Maneki-neko (beckoning cats.)
