Bakuro-chō (馬喰町), which in ancient times was written as 博労町, was the site of a horse market. It stretched from 1 chōme to 4 chōme, and on the north side of 3 chōme, there was a parade ground called "hatsune no baba" (also known as "oimawashi no baba"). From the mid-Edo period onward, a number of inns were built in the area, and there was the publication of an Edo tourist guide which set Bakuro-chō as the starting point. The site was in what is now Bakuro-chō 1 chōme, Nihonbashi.
