Konchi-in Temple from "Guide to Famous Spots of Edo Vol.1"
Compiled by Saitō Chōshū, Painted by Hasegawa Settan 1834-1836 (Tempō 5 to Tempō 7) Kaga Collection 256

It is said that Konchi-in Temple was constructed in Kitanomaru (the northern precinct) of Edo Castle by the monk Sūden in 1619, and that it was relocated to this area in 1639. Tokyo Tower now stands in what was once the inner ground of this temple. Sūden managed the Konchi-in Temple concurrently with the Konchi-in of the Nanzen-ji Temple in Kyōto, and it is said that he, along with Tenkai Daisōjo, who built Kanei-ji Temple, was a behind-the-scenes chancellor of the Edo Shōgunate government.
