Ushigome Kagurazaka from "Guide to Famous Spots of Edo Vol.4"
Compiled by Saitō Chōshū, Painted by Hasegawa Settan 1834-1836 (Tempō 5 to Tempō 7) Kaga Collection 256

In the Edo period, this location was home to many samurai residences, shrines, and temples. At the top of the hill was Bishamon-dō Hall. Bishamon-dō Hall would be a bustling place on the "tiger" day of each month, with large numbers of pilgrims and a garden plant market. As to reason behind the name Kagurazaka, some say that the tabisho (temporary shrine during a festival) of Ichigaya Hachiman used to be here and that kagura (sacred Shintō music) could be heard. Others say that the kagura was performed at the tabisho of Takada Anahachiman Shrine.
