Shigaraki Teashop in Kinroku-chō (Kinroku-chō Shigarakisaden) from "Guide to Famous Spots of Edo Vol. 1"
Compiled by Saitō Chōshū, Painted by Hasegawa Settan 1834-1836 (Tempō 5 to Tempō 7) Kaga Collection 256

Kinroku-chō was in the vicinity of modern Ginza 8-chōme in Chuō Ward, with this teashop offering facilities where patrons could wait at their leisure. The Shigaraki name also represents the origin of the modern "Shigaraki-dōri". At the front of the premises were tea kettles, it also being a popular meeting place for merchants and somewhere to hold exhibitions. Although there were many similar establishments in the immediate vicinity, the "History of Chuō Ward" ("chuō-ku-shi" in Japanese) states that "Shigaraki and Ginza's Tamanoi proved to be the most popular".
