Kanda Myōjin Shrine (Kanda Myōjin no Yashiro)] from "Guide to Famous Spots of Edo Vol. 5".
Compiled by Saitō Chōshū, Painted by Hasegawa Settan 1834-1836 (Tempō 5 to Tempō 7) Kaga Collection 256

This is the modern Kanda Shrine (Kanda Jinja) located in Sotokanda 2-chōme in Chiyoda Ward. The modern name was assumed after the Meiji Restoration, when it replaced the earlier name of Kanda Myōjin. In enshrining the deity that protected Edo, the shrine's festivals were on a par with those of Sannō Gongen, being considered public occasions and conducted on a grand scale. Originally located closer to Kandabashi, the shrine was relocated to Surugadai with the expansion of Edo Castle, later moving to Yushima where it remains today.
