Layout of the Front and Central of Honmaru Main Keep
Important cultural property "Materials on the Construction of Edo Castle" Manji period Tokyo Shiryō Collection 616-37

This is a plan of modifications to the buildings first constructed in the Manji period (1658-1661) fol- lowing the Great Fire of Meireki in 1657.

Attached to the plan is a short memo with directions for the dismantling of the ornate Okozashiki (Shōgun’s liv- ing room) and Gokyūsokunoma (room for state of af- fairs as well as the Shōgun’s daily life), which were thought to have been added adjacent to the Gozano- ma (Shōgun’s office) in the Central Palace after the Honmaru Main Keep had been constructed. This renovation is thought to be in response to a move by the eighth Shōgun Yoshimune. As part of his Kyōhō reforms, Yoshimune is reported to have dismantled these rooms and moved to reside in the corridors in- stead.
