1/20 Scale Cross-Sectional Drawing of the Gozanoma(Gohommaru Gozanoma Nijubun no Ichi Tsuma Tatejiwari), Honmaru Palace
Important cultural property "Materials on the Construction of Edo Castle" Man'en period Tokyo Shiryō Collection 6161-2

A sectional drawing of the Gozanoma or Shogun's office, including both the upper and lower levels. The space was composed of the upper dais (jōdan), decorative entrance panels (nandokamae), the lower dais (gedan), the second chamber (ninoma), the third chamber (sannoma), an antechamber (ōtamari), and an internal corridor with tatami flooring (irigawa).

This drawing shows columns, beams, and other structural elements, with dimensions such as eave height and door frame height carefully annotated. At the ridge sits an ornamental oniita ridge-end plate, while kaburagegyo turnip-shaped ornaments are attached to the bargeboards. The Gozanoma served as the Shogun’s formal reception room, where he met with members of the council of elders (rōjū) and conducted appointments of unranked staff and more senior officials.
