Tokyo Heritage Week 2024 Tokyo Metropolitan Library Exhibition, "Living in Edo Castle - The Central and Inner Palaces -"

Every year in Tokyo Heritage Week, the Special Collections Room of the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Library exhibits important materials focusing on the late Edo through mid Meiji periods (roughly the 19th century AD), primarily from its Materials on the Construction of Edo Castle (the KORA Household), designated by the national government as an Important Cultural Property. The theme of the exhibition this year is the daily life of members of the Shōgun's household within Edo Castle.

Exhibition outline
Part 1. Edo Castle's Honmaru Palace
Part 1 includes exhibits relating to the structure of the Honmaru Palace and the ceremonies conducted in its Great Hall, the Ō-hiroma.
Part 2. Central Palace: The Living Quarters and Daily Life of the Shōgun
Part 2 includes exhibits on the Shōgun's governmental affairs, lifestyle, and leisure pursuits.
Part 3. Inner Palace: The Living Quarters and Daily Lives of the Shōgun's Wife and Her Maids
Part 3 includes drawings that reveal the interior structure of the Inner Palace, and colored woodblock prints, produced in the Meiji period, that showcase the lifestyles of the Shōgun's wife and her maids.
Mobile Edo-Tokyo Museum in Tokyo Metropolitan Central Library
The second exhibition space (Multi-Purpose Hall) is curated in collaboration with the Tokyo Metropolitan Edo-Tokyo Museum under the title, "Mobile Edo-Tokyo Museum in Tokyo Metropolitan Central Library." It includes panels, models, and reproductions from the permanent exhibition of the Edo-Tokyo Museum, which is currently closed while undergoing major renovation works.
