Kaga Toyosaburō (1872-1944; pen name: Suikei) was an Osaka-born industrialist and aficionado of Edo culture. His collection of around 24,000 books is preserved in the Tokyo Metropolitan Central Library as the Kaga Collection. In terms of both quality and quantity, this is known as one of Japan's foremost collections in the area of late 18th and early 19th century literature. The Kaga Collection also contains many scrapbooks compiled personally by Toyosaburō. He was a member of a number of study groups on antique wares and books, such as the Shūko-kai and the Shintanki-kai, which were operated by collectors. These study groups influenced Kaga Toyosaburō's approach to compiling scrapbooks and shaped his personal interests as a collector.
